## How to check a home loan interest rate in Australia

1. Read the interest rate on the latest statement or internet banking — not the comparison rate.
2. Note balance, years left, occupancy, repayments, LVR (or loan ÷ own valuation) and any offset.
3. Compare those numbers with eligible prints a brokerage can actually place. Do not treat a comparison-site “from 5.69%” as a personal offer.
4. Stay first: take a named lender and product to retention. A match is not guaranteed. MoneySmart also says ask the current lender before switching.
5. Switch only if stay fails, after discharge and application fees minus any cashback. Do not reset a short remaining term to 30 years.
